We’re educators, not entrepreneurs.

GMAT Ninja was founded in 2002 by a teacher, and we still do what teachers do.

We don’t have a sales team. We don’t run discounts to fill seats. We don’t make promises we can’t keep.

Our mission: get you finished with your tests and applications, so you can move on to business school.

We don’t believe in gimmicks. Or templates. Or shortcuts.

Here’s the thing: the GMAT, GRE, and EA are actually measuring your reasoning skills and ability to execute under pressure, not just how well you can read or do math.

Most test prep companies ignore that, because they’re built to maximize sales. The longer the lessons, the longer you stay subscribed.

We do things differently at GMAT Ninja.

When you work with our tutors, you get a customized plan that targets the actual gaps in your reasoning, designed by a tutor who spends time between sessions thinking about your specific case. And if tutoring isn’t the right fit for your situation, we’ll tell you so.

Our self-paced GMAT course was the product of seeing students suffer needlessly for months and years because prep options prioritized profits, not student outcomes. A course can’t adapt to you the way a tutor can, but this is the closest we could get. One goal: to make the study process both efficient and actually kind of enjoyable.

Our dogged pursuit of quality shapes how we hire. We’ve turned down thousands of applicants — including people with perfect scores — because a great GMAT scorer and a great teacher are not the same thing.

Meet the GMAT Ninja Team

The approach we’ve described requires exceptional teachers. Our team includes a chess champion, a former Army captain, a semipro rugby player, an ex-professional dancer, a voice actor, and a biotech innovator, among others. What they share is a rare ability to understand how a student thinks and to adapt accordingly.

Do you know the GMAT, GRE, or EA inside and out? Is teaching a craft and a lifelong passion for you?

Then we’d like to hear from you.

What our students say.

Mike is incredible. He went above and beyond to support me and helped me achieve an amazing score. Not only is he a genius when it comes to the test questions themselves, but he understands his students and their needs on a deep level and is willing to put 100% of his effort in to get you to score at your highest potential. He was always willing to go above and beyond to support me, and he made the process enjoyable as well. Mike really knows this test through and through and is able to effectively teach you the techniques and skills you need to excel. Well worth the time, money, and effort. If you want to succeed, he’s your guy.

Harry is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had for GMAT prep. He was always able to understand how I was approaching a specific question and found ways so that I could continue improving myself. Moreover, Harry does push you, but it is for a good cause. In fact, he will try to lead you to the best score you can achieve and even through in some meditation techniques to help out. I am certain that my improvement in the GMAT and the +700 score was thanks to his tutoring. I highly recommend others wanting to improve their scores to work with Harry.

How is GMAT Ninja different from other test-prep companies?

We want you to get into your dream program with as little time, money, studying, isolation, and misery as possible. We mean that literally.

We were teachers long before we were a business, and that shapes everything we build. Our GMAT course is comprehensive but lean, without an ounce of bloat. Tutoring is billed by the hour, and we utilize that time to its fullest.

We minimize what you spend, and maximize what you get.

What do you actually offer?

We offer five main products:

  • A self-paced GMAT course
  • One-on-one tutoring for the GMAT, GRE and EA
  • MBA admissions consulting
  • Performance coaching for test anxiety
  • A library of free resources, including full video lessons for the GMAT, GRE and EA

If you’re not sure where to begin, start with our free material. If you want a more structured approach, try our course. And if you prefer more personalized help, get in touch about personalized tutoring.

How do you pick your tutors?

Our tutors go through a grueling audition process that can sometimes last for months before they formally join our team. We won’t bore you with the details, but rest assured, each person on our team has been through the gauntlet to be here. We’ve had thousands of tutors apply to work with us, and fewer than 1% made the cut.

Our hiring process is rigorous because we’re looking for a specific kind of person. We look for teachers who really work to understand what’s going on in your head, who stay curious, and who find an unusual student compelling rather than inconvenient. We also want someone who can keep you steady and motivated over months of prep, because a target score is as much about morale as it is about the material.

Do you offer score guarantees?

No, and we never will.

Too many things decide your score on test day: your nerves, your sleep, the questions you happen to draw, and so on. Nobody can promise you a number in good faith.

Here’s what we can promise: the most efficient prep we know how to build, and the truth about where you stand at every step. As for how good we are at that — our students say it better than we could.

Why are you called GMAT Ninja if you also teach the GRE and EA?

Our name is a funny story, and probably the best evidence that we’re teachers first and a business second.

A student of Charles’ liked to call him “a ninja with the GMAT,” and when Charles needed a website to send tutoring students to, he ran with it. Nobody planned for it to take off, least of all Charles. In hindsight, he’d have chosen something with more room to grow, since “GMAT, GRE, and EA Ninja” doesn’t quite roll off the tongue…

Why is so much of your material free?

Pursuing business school is expensive enough without costly prep on top. All of us have studied for these exams in the past, and we remember what it’s like to price-shop your own future. So, we started posting free lessons on YouTube, and just never saw a reason to stop.

Today that adds up to multiple, complete video series for the GMAT, GRE, and EA, plus hundreds of articles to read at your leisure. Whether you can pay us shouldn’t decide whether we help you. Plenty of students get outstanding scores from the free material alone and never send us a dollar, and we’re thrilled every time.

If we’ve saved you a pile of money with our free content, you might consider donating some of those savings to an awesome charity. Here are a few of our favorites.

Do your tutors collaborate with each other, or do they work independently?

Both! You’ll work directly with one tutor for a consistent experience, so you keep building momentum toward your target score. But behind your tutor is an entire team, not just a roster of freelancers under a brand. We compare notes, share approaches that are getting results, and get second opinions from each other when a student’s struggles call for one.

Do you work with students outside the US?

Absolutely! Our self-paced course is accessible anywhere in the world. Our tutoring is conducted entirely online over video — we’ve taught students in more than 60+ countries, so we’re accustomed to juggling time zones from Tokyo to Toronto. If you have a stable internet connection, a mic, and a webcam, you’re all set.
